I sat talking to the fire most the night, feeling her respond as I droned on about things I'd left undone back home. Holding Sage's letter in my hand I knew the time had come to set things in order so my life in Port Westgate would have no strings attached to other places, only other people. Alyssia and Katryn were getting married, Aly had been one of the first friends I had made after leaving Jhelom and starting down this path. The Thunderlord was a strong ally and a link to the Fae Legacy on Sosaria. Come hell or high water I would be at their wedding.
I had watched in a dream unfolding the tiny frame of Sage standing on the bar of the Rose yelling out she was closing the tavern, stamping her foot on the counter in fury. I wonder how many count their blessings she didn't call a storm tempest down on them, bringing the building to ruins over their heads? I can't help but smile as she attempts to tell me what she did, in vague, disjointed words. I should be sorry I used her the way I did, knowing it wouldn't take long for her to lose her patience and make the changes I couldn't for fear of hurting someone's feelings or letting down the freehold. Sage's tenacity was a rare gift, one I appreciate more and more the longer I know her.
My thoughts turn to Mason, my fire knew all about my father, endless hours spent talking to her about him after Ian left to return to the Freehold. "I will be home soon daddy," I whispered anxious to see him again. I really couldn't wait to bring him back to Arcadia, to introduce him to Sharnra, and the Serpents Dagger Clan, The Nunnehi, Hasna, and maybe Brim, dads fascination with gadgetry might have me loose him to Slim. Though to show him ships really can fly... to show him the dreaming seas... those are are dreams that really can come true.
There were other details that needed attention, things that couldn't wait to be settled. A short visit home would set everything to right... and tie up loose ends...
