Sage stood before Ughald the Glome Elder who's mastery of Petros and the cantrip Living Rock, now adorned the Balefire Cavern; his stern face and slow reasoning countered by Sage's fierce stubbornness. “It is the only way I can forge a union with her,” Sage levied against Ughald's “You...cannot... seal... away... the... Firebrand...-YOU-... are... needed... by... more... than... you... realize...” The two fae creatures argued at length for what seemed like days rather than hours; Sage's fiery ranting didn't seem to scratch the Glome's rocky surface until Ughald's persistent retort of, “You... have... a... -DUTY-... young... Ghille...” struck profoundly into Sage's heart and mind and with a soft trill she explained to him, “I do have a duty, as Firebrand, to make sure the Balefire does not fall dormant, that she burns hot and bright and with all the life I can give her reason to burn with. I need to convince her to cooperate with me or die trying... Ughald seal me in... let me do my duty.”
The Elder Glome's face softened, moments passed while he slipped through the stone to the last un-worked face of the cavern, what would be a door in a great tree, one that could only ever be opened by those of the dreaming, sealing forever the Balefire in a safe cocoon of sculpted stone where only the most powerful banality could tear down her defenses and threaten the fire. Sage stood between the Balefire and the outer cloister, she felt the glamour build as Ughald engaged in his sliver of Petros, casting the cantrip of Living Rock and with his deft hands pulled the stone closed over the archway into the cavern. Slowly the stone molded itself to the Elder Glome's touch forming a solid wall of stone sealing the cavern holding the Balefire and her Firebrand beneath the Freehold of Roses. Trepidation gripped Ughald's chest as he closed over the last patch, pausing to watch a moment the image of Sage in her flowing green robe and fiery red hair remembering the nights she'd joined him in his husk, deeply concerned she wouldn't learn her way out before she perished.
Sage watched the wall form before her, in her heart she was determined to see this through, no fear, no hesitation, she would become a single force with her Balefire, united in mind and purpose, or someone else would be needed to take her place. As the last of the outer light faded and the cavern was left bathed in the emerald glow of the Balefire's flames Sage turned to face the fire, they had some issues to work out and lessons to learn, in the time left before the air in the cavern ran out. Above the surface of the rock with its perpetual blanket of freshly fallen snow, dark clouds began forming as the wind picked up in the canyon. The Balefire and the Ghille Dhu would soon come to blows...
Winter Storm Warning: The Freehold of Roses will be under severe winter weather for the next 24 hours.
