The trip was planned to be short, just long enough to gather Berry and take him back to Arcadia... but somehow seeing old friends changed everything.
Sage told Phaen about the gathering at Aly's house and Phaen was told in no uncertain terms that she wasn't going to hide in the Freehold, that she owed her friends a visit while she was here. Now standing in the cool blue of desert dawn as Phaen stared distantly over the ruins of Mirage, a smile came to her lips as she thought about those she'd seen.
Rianna was in love, always a beautiful sight, she shimmered radiantly as she tried to keep her secret.
Aly the ever protective alpha wolf had to know everything, it wasn't too hard to get the secret out. Aly's loyalty and loving nature was a warm blanket as Phaen slept by her hearth the first night of her visit.
Fiona had grown so much, the young woman finally branching out and making her life her own, choosing for herself is she'd be happy or not. Phaen swelled with pride for the young artist, and felt a deep love for her first dreamer.
It was good to see Amelia again, there was the heart of a Pooka in the young woman, Phaen often wondered if she somehow denied her chrysalis and never quite became a Fae.
Monday was spent getting Berry packed and tying up any loose ends, though in the quiet of the night Phaen slipped out to visit someone else she missed while away. She found herself walking the lanes and byways of Istas hoping her Faerie glamour would attract his attention... it wasn't long before Lord Azrael stepped from the shadows to greet the Sidhe. The Lord of Istas was a gracious host and the time shared telling of changes and Westgate made for a most enjoyable evening. It touched Phaen deeply to know he still welcomed her.
Tracing the intricate pattern of glamour on the Ankh Phaen opened the portal to Arcadia and directed Berry through. With a final glance over her shoulder she heard the ringing of the bell on James' hat and saw the faces from the Rest the night before.
Aedon's reserved caring nature, it was always a relief to Phaen when he was there. Aedon could temper anyone's mood.
Little Chryssie was growing up so fast, the young Eshu would be wandering off in a few short years... Phaen hoped her family understood and supported her as they did her father Faris.
Aphroditie always quiet and gracious, her attentive nature cared for all those who frequented the Rest.
Beleg and Maya, a corner stone to the Aegis and Silverwood area, their stability held the people together. Beleg shone brightly once enchanted, his fun loving nature lit up the room. His kiss goodbye would be felt for a long time, and cherished deeply.
Joshua and James, two Pooka to keep the chaos in the midst of her friends. The two Pooka really could stir things up.
Rotep... Phaen shook her head thinking he was wildly misinformed about the Fae and she hoped he never learned the truth.
As much as she loved her friends and felt love from them, her dream was elsewhere. A blue scaled, black sailed ship awaited her return. Phaen's soul mate wasn't a man or animal, it was her ship and the bond they shared ran deeper than most lovers could ever know or understand. The dreaming sea awaited Captain Grey and she would sail to the end of the world on the first tide.
Phaen blinked then turned for the portal, stepping through she heard Ole Blu's roar off in the distance and new he was closer than she'd like; it would be close if they even made the waypoint without getting eaten. As the portal closed behind her and Berry with a soft "pop" Phaen grabbed the pooka and began burning her glamour casting quicksilver to run them faster than humanly possible... so began Berry's life in Arcadia... such is the stuff of dreams.

A Soft Goodbye
when the light begins to fade
and shadows fall across the sea,
one bright star in the evening sky.
your love's light leads me on my way.
there's a dream that will not sleep,
a burning hope that will not die.
so I must go now with the wind,
and leave you waiting on the tide.
time to fly, time to touch the sky.
one voice alone, a haunting cry.
one song, one star burning bright,
let it carry me through darkest night.
rain comes over the gray hills,
and on the air, a soft goodbye.
hear the song that I sing to you
when the time has come to fly.
when I leave and take the wind
and find the land that faith will bring,
the brightest star in the evening sky
is yours to find for me.
is yours to find for me.
