Laeldril locked the front door of the watchtower and wandered back to Runescape to finish reading reports. The night sky was clear and stars glimmered down upon the clean white snow. Making no attempt to hide her passing the uncommon sound of snow crunching beneath her feet beat out a signal inside her, a desire to run. Lael counted off the steps till she reached her lair and the stack of paper on the table. In her mind she lowered the wall and let her wolves feel her desire, hear the beat that still drummed in her mind. Clear as crystal the howls came as Dart, Soot and Lightfoot bayed at the moons above Sosaria, the call to join them in the hunt…
Lael stripped down to the most minimal leather armor to cover her, untied her hair letting it hang free down her back; leaving Runescape she stood in the snow judging its depth and traction with her bare feet before bolting into the night to find her pack. Laeldril’s black skin and covering lent itself to running in the shadow of the cliff walls, burning the blood needed to increase her speed as she launched herself towards Luna and the moongate. Once in sight of the city, Lael dropped low sniffing the air and locating guards and citizens who may see her in her passing. The night was running deep and few were to be seen on the roads in and out of the city. Lael pulled the shadows to conceal her and moved into the city to the moongate, once there she focused on Minoc and was swept into the forest, welcomed by the baying of her pack.
Laeldril hunched low as a frenzy of white fur and ecstatic yips flew past the other wolves into her arms, she rolled on her back as Dart stood on her chest licking her face radiating love and affection for his regnant. Wolf hunters killed off all of Dart’s pack, and left the young cub along the road into Minoc bleeding as life ebbed from him slowly. Though a Kindred’s heart ceases to beat it can still feel while there is a vestige of humanity left, Laeldril couldn’t let him die, not one so young, she should have ended his life but instead she pulled him into her lap, bit her finger and let the blood run into his mouth; covering his mouth and nose with her own, Lael applied pressure to the blood in Darts mouth forcing it into his stomach. A few moments passed and Lael felt the bond take hold, felt the wolf cub’s consciousness awaken in her mind. In soft tones Lael spoke reassuring the cub, stroking his fur, encouraging him to fight past the pain and heal. Kindred Law prevents the retaining or siring of children, they cannot mature once bound or sired, as with Dart, in time he will need to be weaned in order to mature physically. It has been just a few weeks and now the young white wolf was a holy terror, he learned fast the benefits bestowed on him from Laeldril’s blood, he could out run, out jump and out last every other wolf in the pack except Soot and Lightfoot; only divine intervention would save the next wolf hunter who tried to hurt Lael’s lil cub.
The pack numbered thirteen, with Soot as the alpha male and Lael as the alpha female. Most stayed for the abundance of food but Soot and Lightfoot were also bound by blood to Laeldril. Nearly a year had passed since Lael fought the previous alpha female for her place in the pack, a fight to the death where Lael feasted on the female wolfs blood before turning the carcass over to Soot and claiming her spot at his side. Once her position in the pack was secure, Lael added her own blood to a doe she killed and brought for Soot, it was not her intention to retain Lightfoot also, but Soot shared that meal with his brother that night. Soot growled low as he approached Lael on the ground, his cold nose brushing along her leg and stomach as he sniffed deeply taking her in. Lightfoot bounded up and picked up Dart by the scruff of his neck pulling him away from his brother as he inspected Laeldril. Closing her eyes Lael directed her love and loyalty to Soot as leader of the pack, and felt in return his possessiveness and territorial ness along with his love for her. Soot growled again pushing at Lael’s side his teeth bared as the other wolves looked on. Lael fought the beast within, sensing Soot in a similar struggle as he displayed his dominance over the woman he was bound to; a fight between marking what was his and a bond that fought against the display. Lael rolled onto her stomach and laid quietly as Soot laid his weight upon her pinning her to the ground, teeth bared he put his mouth on her neck still fighting to continue the display to the pack. Lael continued to display her submission to him, till he raised his head and howled, as the rest of the pack joined in he stood releasing Lael and she crouched beside him running her fingers through his fur, reassuring him all was ok.
Laeldril smelled it first, on the breeze the scent of prey near by. Growling low she let Soot call to the pack and begin the hunt. None could match her speed; Laedril out ran the pack her beast rising to the surface as the desire for blood edged her faster. Laedril sprang from the trees, claws and fangs bared as she descended on the stag. Soot and Lightfoot close at her heels took down the female while the rest of the pack caught up and joined the fight, decimating the family of deer in the glade. Blood streaking her body and hair her blood lust sated, Laeldril crouched nearby watching as her pack fed well tonight. Dart was the first to finish his full bulging stomach causing him to waddle as he walked over to her. Laedril lied down on the soft floor of the glade staring up at the stars letting the breeze caress her skin. Dart curled up next to her head resting his head on her shoulder. In time Lightfoot came over and laid down along her left side resting his head on the stomach, then Soot joined them nudging Lael’s knee to get her to raise it, he lied down between her legs, his head on her thigh as she draped her other leg over him. They laid in silence, sharing their contentment with her as she directed her affection to them; eventually Lael could feel Sol rising towards the horizon. Soot growled at the first rays of azure that broke the dark night sky. Dart whined piteously as the time had approached for Lael to seek protection from the sun, reluctant resignation filled Soot and Lightfoot as Lael releasing her hold on their fur, slowly sunk into the earth beneath the glade. Laeldril's wolves lying down on the spot she left, kept guard over her as she slept cradled in the arms of the earth beneath them.
