...and a star to sail her by
Phaen and her father had made it safely back to Port Westgate, though Mason had a distinct desire to stay with Slim and the lifetime he could spend learning Goblin Gadgetry. The pair had even managed to get past Old Blu without too much difficulty. Phaen could feel her father asleep in the crew bunks below as she lay on her bed staring out the window at Luna as the gentle waves rocked the Fury. Phaen had walked up to the Northern Wall tower to speak to Den today, now settled Phaen needed to learn the port, and start thinking about hiring a crew. "Idle hands don't eat," her grandfather used to say.
Denmark Lenon was the Captain stationed on the Northern Wall; a middle aged Satyr, Phaen liked his beard. He was also one of the few people in Port Westgate Phaen knew by name. On the way to the guardhouse Phaen saw a guard named Neville coming out of a small building, she deliberately turned and started walking backwards as he drew near. Neville's eyes widened and he pointed remembering her from the night she entered the Western Port. Phaen smiled to him sweetly, thinking to herself that she wished she really was a witch and could hex him, as he turned and hurried away. Approaching another guard she asked for Cap'n Den. After a few moments Denmark came out to see her, they exchanged greetings and arranged to meet for a meal the following day to talk.
Now in the quiet of night, and with no one to speak to, Phaen's thoughts were of Ian. Phaen missed him very much, and not being able to say goodbye when she left Sosaria didn't help. Phaen felt her fire comfort her, after a time the soothing nudges at her consciousness lulled her to sleep. It was a sleep not protected by Samarah with Ian on Sosaria, and Phaen's dreams again grew disturbing in nature. Repeated more and more often of late, the dark burning star, its purple aura. What did it mean, why did it invade her sleep? It was the same star emblazoned on the journal Phaen's mother gave her, and was also on the hilt of the dagger and the cloak pin she used to carry. Beaumayn Sidhe were imprisoned in Arcadia, so Phaen had gone to lengths to hide her house from common knowledge. Glamour removed all memory of why, but Fae didn't question that when ordering her killed or contemplating her arrest. Now with the dark star permeating her dreams, Phaen wanted to look back, find out why, what it meant. Find out how to remove the anxiety the star created in her. Remember what her house had done to deserve their fate...
