Sage moved slowly down the smooth molded stairs of the tunnel below the freehold. She knew this path blindly but tonight she carried a single candle, one enchanted by her own hand to burn eternally, she'd only ever made one other, a soft pink flame that reminded her of Seiren, made by request for Phaen. This one burned green, Sage had spent the better part of two days collecting the redes to fashion the candle, one to burn for Dai.
As Sage descended the stairs her thoughts were of the Eshu archer, the times spent teasing Chancellor Salamandridaes at the Blade and Beauty, her playfulness in the Winters Rose with Iulian D'Arville. As with all Eshu, Dai had wandered away from the Freehold in the last while, she hadn't been seen but rarely, but Dai was Fae and as with all changeling life Sage felt it strongly when their light faded. A hand reached out to hurt the Kingdom of Everthorne and its reach spread outward to almost every other community in the realm.
Phaen before leaving saw a vision of the Freehold, one where all the celebrations and mirth were frozen in time. As each Fae left the lands more and more Sage felt a loss, the currents of glamour and life ebbing away. Songs turning to echo's, echo's that in time would grow silent as their ripple reached the shore.
Sage entered the domed room she had created before the balefire chamber, the walls were lined with alcoves, and in some sat rememberances of those whom she cherished. Standing before one of the alcoves Sage sat the candle on the little shelf then took an arrow and placed it against the back of the alcove. A remembrance of Dai in the vestibule before the Balefire Cavern; an everburning flame of hope that the Eshu's soul would be born again.
