Angel sat on the ledge looking to the drifts below, watching the blues change to lavenders as the moons passed over the fresh snow. Behind her the birds were ruffling feathers, a couple huddled together against the cold. At dusk Angel had five Corvidae delivered so that she may select a personal messenger, now living away from Moonglow and the mages guild she would need one of her own. The breeder came highly recommended, and Angelique made sure to specify she would need a messenger capable of flight at night and in cold temperatures. These she was told had been bred and raised in the local mountains and were used to the cold. Angel had already ruled out the two rock doves as being to small for her needs, that left two Corvus Corone, and a Corvus Cornix. Two male and a female. Looking back over her shoulder Angel smiled watching the two males huddle close and the female off to the other side of the cage preening herself, the light from the two moons highlighting the black of her head feathers and making the ash grey of her body feathers almost glow.
Appearance couldn't be the deciding factor, Angel knew well that the purpose of this avis was to provide a service first and foremost not to be a pet. Unsure if her preference would be suitable Angel pulled the silver whistle used to call Lucif from her pocket and blew to see if he was in the area. After a few brief moments, Angelique heard the soft beating of wings on the cool night breeze and turned to see Lucif making his way to her roof balcony. Lucif landed next to her and cocked his head looking from her to the birds in the cage on the bench. “I've called so that you might give me some advice or provide approval Lucif,” Angel said softly. Lucif adjusted his wings and settled down beside Angel's hand his gaze remaining on the cage.
I'm not sure the males would be stronger all three are the same size for the most part Angel explained. The males eat rather voraciously, I am not sure if it is due to hunger or mannerism, the female was raised with them and eats delicately. She also seems more comfortable in the cold, either that or she isn't comfortable with the males. Softly Angel added looking down at Lucif, the one I choose to act as messenger for me will be sharing your sky, so you sir I think should have some input. Lucif cocked his head to look up at Angel and tapped his talon twice on the stone before looking back to the cage.
Angel stood and walked to the cage, opening it and reaching in with her gloved hand, as she did so one of the males dropped to the bottom of the cage away from her reach, the other scooted itself to the bars eying her warily. Angelique brought her hand towards the Corvus Cornix and the female stepped off her perch onto Angel's hand. Closing the cage Angel walked back over to Lucif and leaned once more against the low stone wall around the balcony. Tilting her head Angel looked over the Hooded Crow, as she did the same looking at Angel. The crow seemed fit and healthy, was responding favourable and showed no signs of apprehension or intimidation. Softly Angelique asked, “do you think she will be a good messenger Lucif?” to which the black crow tapped his talon twice. “Would you mind her living in Istas, sharing the sky you fly in?” Angel asked. Lucif responded again this time with a single tap of his talon, signifying a, “no”. Angel smiled softly and added, "good then we will send the males and the two rock doves back." Turning a small tag tied to the hooded crow's left leg over, Angel read it and looked down to Lucif, smiling Angel told him, "her name is Parli." Lucif looked between Parli and Angel holding his piercing blue eyes on the black and grey crow a moment, then he launched himself into the night sky with a kaw. As his image faded into the blue black of the mountains in the distance Angel whispered, “thank you my friend,” and moved to the teleporter to take Parli inside and begin getting her comfortable with Angel's space.
